Stole Mate

 We love a winter wedding and we have been lucky enough to have a flurry of them come our way over the last 12 months. Outdoor pictures capturing the brisk evening air and wintery clouds are a must. But a frozen bride doesn't do us any good at the reception. We have gladly recommended the use of a stole or wrap many times and it always conveys the perfect mix of elegence, romance, and lets just say it...keep our bride alive during their portraits!

Marisa & AJ got married at The Sunset Room this past December 4th. Check out their blog post soon.

Sherri & Mike lucked out with perfect snow at River Farm last January 29th. They were on the blog yesterday again as a flashback...check it out!

Meredith & Matt had a perfectly brisk day this past November 12th at The Fairfax at Embassy Row.

Swizzle This

Swizzle Sticks, Drink Stirrers, Beverage Ornaments....whatever you want to call them they more useful and gorgeous than a finger to mix around the ingredients in your cocktail. I can't wait to use the peppermint sticks as an accent for our bar on Christmas!

A Sign Of Whats To Come

I've seen a lot of fun trends over the years to remember a special moment in time, most of them having to do with pictures. A trend that stands out and might be a bit more timeless than a pictures is cool signage. Not just the typical framed mat with all the signatures around it but more of a poster exclaiming your stake in the ground, your new found love, a marker of the moment. 1.  A badge consisting of stripes meeting at an angle, worn on the sleeve by noncommissioned officers, police officers, etc., as an indication of rank, service, or the like.

 

2.  An ornament in this form, as on a molding.

 

3.  Also called chevron weave . herringbone ( def. 2a )

 

4.  Current obsession of many in the wedding and design world. Accented by the feature on Million Dollar Decorators and Mary McDonalds use of it painted on a floor. Also used in Missoni prints for decades and something I've personally lusted after since being in fashion classes in college. To be fair I own one cardigan and a scarf from my BBF but thats clearly not enough.

Ikat In The Hat

2. a fabric made by this method.

3. a way to jazz up any tablescape, outfit or interior with a funky pattern that never goes out of style but instead translates to funky, preppy and boho depending on how you use it. I.E. to pull an ikat out of your style hat!

Witty Witty Bang Bang

We love a good play on words here at Events In The City. Megan and I fell in love with each other when she came up the "Baby Boy-tini" almost 5 years ago....and wait for it, the "Drunken Shepard" which was Shepard's pie served in a beer mug. And when my Robot Wedding from a few weeks ago came up with a specialty drink name to swoon over, "Intergalactic Planetberry", well obvi we loved it. Yeah I know, its a little kooky but we are suckers for puns. Megan kindly reminded me of this last week when she surprised me with a new pad of post-it notes with a naughty saying on them, (I wont write it out but it basically said ******* Genius).

This one below rings true for us as we usually feel like Event Fairy God Mothers....and though we don't have a wand, we do come packing a smile and an emergency kit which usually does the trick!
